Michael Muhammad:
"Mike As a result of his great work, NNGA's Michael Muhammad was awarded the 1st place Messenger Award by the National Newspaper Association in June. With more than 300 submissions, the association includes over 235 Black newspapers across the country. In the Equity category, the Final Call story won for Environmental reporting. The award is known as the Black Pulitzer Prize. Founded 80 years ago, the organization has a long history."

Kenneth Jeffries, a linebacker from Fayetteville, North Carolina, enrolled at Tuskegee University on a football scholarship in 1983. While lettering four years, Jeffries was selected to the SIAC Scholastic All Conference team in 1984 and 85, SIAC All Media Team in 1987, and was the defensive captain of the 1987 SIAC Championship team that led all of Division II in scoring defense. In that same year, he was the 1987 Tuskegee University Golden Helmet Award Recipient.
As an Animal and Poultry Science major, Kenneth maintained a 3.0 or higher grade point average and was named to the Tuskegee University Honor Roll in 1985. He received the LA Potts Agricultural Scholarship in 1986 and was initiated into the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., holding numerous offices. He graduated from Tuskegee University in 1990.
As a Biologist at the National Institutes of Health, Jeffries has made significant contributions in asthma research, organ rejection and non-invasive heart valve replacement. As a microsurgeon, Kenneth has taught at the local and national level, and was awarded the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute’s Translational Science Award and the Orloff Science Award, the highest honor given by NHLBI.
Kenneth is actively involved in the community and his church, serving as an Elder and Session member at Prince Georges Community Church, Chairman of the Leadership Selection Committee, the Scholarship Committee, and Project Giveback. In addition to providing Thanksgiving baskets to needy families, he volunteers at the PGCC food bank, sings in the Men’s Choir and is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the Washington Tuskegee Alumni Chapter.
A strong supporter of Tuskegee University, Jeffries is a founding member and organizer of the Gamma Epsilon Alumni Association, which serves as a philanthropic arm to Tuskegee University. He has organized golf tournaments to benefit scholarships at Tuskegee as well as contributed to the Golden Tiger Football Alumni Endowment.
